chapter sixteen: How to create a calm, organized work from home space.
Working from home has become our new normal now and to be honest, I love it! I get to spend time with my dogs, work from the comfort of my home and set the space to whatever vibe I want. It wasn’t easy or very productive at first but once I found a balance and gave my home office an actual home it all came together beautifully.
If you’ve been struggling to stay focused at home here are a four easy tips you can implement that will help you achieve that.
Designate a space for your “ home office”.
Most people work from their couch, dining table, kitchen island or even bedroom. I know we don’t all have the luxury to turn entire rooms into home offices, that’s ok! You don’t need a whole room. Setting up a desk in the living room or in the bedroom works fine. Just make sure that it’s facing a window or gets good lighting that way it keeps you awake and the natural light energizes you and keeps you motivated. Having a desk in your bedroom should be a last resort, allow yourself to leave the space you wake up in so it doesn’t feel like you are trapped in the same space all day. A change of scenery and energy is good for you
Get ready for the day.
This is very crucial! changing out of your comfy clothes ,getting dressed, styling your hair and even adding a little mascara on will shift your whole mood. Treat your home office as your real office and show up in your cute outfits. Sweats and Pjs are not allowed.
Keep your desk clean and organized.
Do not declutter your desk with unnecessary things. You need a few things to house your essentials then you can add an item or two to decorate. A candle and a simple chic vase might just do that.
I have found the below to be must haves to keeping your desk organized and functional:
An acrylic desk organizer that holds everything from your pens, iPad, post its, and all your other office supplies
An acrylic tray for all your paper and incoming and outgoing mail.
A cute basket for all your electronics and bulkier items for example: a binder, laptop case.
Giving everything on your desk a home will make it a much calmer place to keep you focused and motivated.
set a routine.
Having a work from home balanced routine is very important. Schedule your lunch into your day and take a little time to self care. Step away from your desk and actually take your lunch. Eat, do a workout, go for a walk, journal! one of my favorite things to do is journal and I love using my JMB living journal. This journal not only helps you incorporate wellness into your days, but also helps you cultivate a positive mindset while doing so with mindfulness suggestions, daily inspiration and positivity journal prompts. it’s such a lovely mid day pick me up for me!
Remember that the luxury of working from home is you get to enjoy the comfort of your space, keep it like that! don’t turn your safe space into an office and bring the “ office “ energy to your home. Cultivate a calm vibe with music, candles, essential oils make your office space cute and make work enjoyable! Be comfy but still cute, and whatever you do, do not declutter your office space.
