chapter ten: a little face lift is good for the soul.

A Closet face lift that is! The number one thing I hear whenever I meet with a client is “ I don’t even know where or how to start?” or “ What do I even need ?” I’m here to help you answer these questions.

Getting your closet organized and cleaned out is a lot of work. It’s not hard but it does take time and patience, hence why people like me exist. Most people don’t have the time or energy to sit and do it, but if you are some of the few people who actually enjoy organizing here is a list of things that will help elevate your closet and make it look so clean, chic and organized.

TEN PIECES YOU NEED TO ELEVATE AND ORGANIZE YOUR CLOSET:

  1. VELVET HANGERS:

Switching out all your plastic, wire and mix matched hangers to all velvet hangers will make a HUGE difference and will free up so much space because the hangers are really skinny and don’t take up space.

Velvet hangers are also great because they’re non slip hangers, so your clothes will actually stay on the hangers.

2. VELVET BOTTOM HANGERS:

Just like the velvet hangers, these are very important. I would say you don’t NEED them per say, because you can use your velvet hangers to hang your bottoms, but folding a skirt over is just not right. Every item in your closet should have a home, and skirts needs to be hung properly. These aren’t so bulky, but they do take up some space because of the metal clips, still way better than the plastic ones.

3. PANT HANGERS (MEN):

I don’t always recommend these to my women clients, only because women can use the velvet hangers and velvet bottom hangers. Men on the other hand cant’t. The velvet hangers will make a crease in their suit pants and the velvet bottom hangers will also make a mark. These bottom hangers are perfect because they will not crease suit pants or any pants.

4. COAT HANGERS (MEN ):

Coat hangers are great for.. you guessed it coats! These hangers are great for men’s sports jackets, coats, anything that’s a little heavier and requires more than a velvet hanger. Also men’s sport jackets need to hold their shape so these are great for that!. Women, please don’t buy these for your coats. You don’t need them. Velvet hangers work perfectly for our coats and jackets.

Boot shapers are a genius idea to keeping your boots looking nice and put together. No more slouchy boots falling over and looking sloppy. They also help your boots keep their shape and makes them last longer.

10. SHOE BOXES

I am obsessed with these shoe boxes, I was never a fan of shoe racks because they took up space and shoes never really look organized on there, they just look messy. The shoe boxes are the opposite of that, every shoe gets a home, it helps keep your shoes from getting dusty, and it looks so clean and organized. They do take up space but the right amount of space by giving you a nice clean organized space.

And there you have it, ten pieces that will help you elevate and organize your closet. Organizing a closet isn’t cheap, but it also does not need to be done all at the same time. The most essential items would be the hangers, always start with the hangers, everything else can come after and in pieces. Happy organizing!
